Description
A coach screw is a heavy-duty screw with a hexagonal head and a threaded shaft that tapers to a pointed tip. They are used to connect timber to timber, metal to timber, or timber to concrete. Coach screws are also known as lag screws or lag bolts. How they work Coach screws are larger and thicker than regular screws. The hexagonal head allows for more torque when tightening with a spanner or wrench. The coarse thread gradually tapers to a sharp, pointed tip. A pilot hole is required before inserting the screw to prevent wood splitting. Where they are used Construction Coach screws are commonly used in construction to secure parts together in treehouses, play structures, and other buildings. Woodworking Coach screws are used to secure timber to timber, or to attach beams to trees. Fixing metal to timber Coach screws can be used to fix ironmongery to timber. Fixing timber to masonry Coach screws can be fixed into nylon wall plugs to make a heavy duty fixing into masonry.
